Serve a surface

A surface is a Rig FX whose source declares an artboard. Serving it takes one toggle. This page walks through it end to end.

  1. Place Rig FX from the Rig view of the Voro menu.
  2. Open the docked rig_source DAT and paste a surface source. The pads example on the Rig FX page is enough to start, and the pack ships instrument sources you can load whole.
  3. Press Reload. The node’s image output shows the drawn artboard. Touch it in a TouchDesigner panel and the pads respond.
  1. On the Serve page, turn Serve on. Serve URL fills in.
  2. Turn Show QR on. The code draws on the node.
  3. Scan it with a phone on the same network. The surface opens in the browser, full screen, multi-touch.

The phone’s touches arrive as the node’s pointer input, the same row a panel touch produces. What the machine does with them is whatever the source says: set state, emit events, move lanes. The control output carries the result to the rest of the graph.

Wire the surface’s control output where a control row goes. A fader on the phone can drive the cutoff of a Filter in the Audio area, a pad can fire a Trigger, an XY pad can push two params of a Kernel FX. Params on the node flow down to every device, so a preset change on the desk shows up on the phone.

  • Leave Serve Mode on its default to share one surface between everyone who scans.
  • Set Turn (minutes) when one visitor at a time should drive; the QR becomes a new link when the turn passes.
  • Turn on See Others to draw every device’s touches on every screen.
  • Set Serve Link to the same link every time when the surface should survive a restart, or pick a name when you want a readable URL.

Turning Serve off takes the surface down. With a new-link policy the old link dies with it.
