Blur

Example Built with Kernel FX Ships with Voro as an example. It may change between versions.

Blur offers five treatments in one operator. Gaussian softens detail in all directions. Radial blurs around a centre, and Zoom blurs toward it. Directional follows a two-channel field; Warp uses that field to move pixels.

Place Blur under Effects in the Image view. Connect your picture to image, then choose a Preset. For Directional or Warp, connect a vector image to field. Optical Flow can supply motion from footage.

Start with a small Amount and inspect the edges of the picture. Field presets let you choose how to sample beyond those edges.

  • image is the picture to process.
  • field supplies horizontal and vertical vectors for Directional and Warp.
  • out is the treated picture.

Changing Preset changes the available controls and ports. The table below describes the initial Directional preset.

  • Preset selects Directional, Warp, Gaussian, Radial or Zoom.
  • Amount sets the Gaussian radius in pixels, the Radial span in degrees, or the Zoom span. Warp has separate Amount X and Amount Y controls.
  • Center X and Center Y place the centre for Radial and Zoom.
  • In the field presets, Units selects pixels or normalized image units. Field Center X and Field Center Y set which incoming values mean no movement.
  • Samples controls the number of image samples used by the blur presets.

Match Units and Field Center to the source of your vectors. A field encoded around 0.5 needs a different centre from a signed field whose neutral value is zero.
