Purpose

Drive is a saturation and waveshaping stage with four characters: tape compresses and warms, tube adds asymmetric harmonics, fold wavefolds into synth territory, and bitcrush reduces bit depth and sample rate for digital grit. A bass-preserving band split keeps the low end clean while the rest saturates, and selectable oversampling keeps the distortion alias-free.

Use

Insert it inline on a voice or bus. Wire audio into in and out onward. Pick a Mode, push Drive up for more saturation, and pull Output down to match levels. Raise Lowcut to keep bass out of the distortion, and use Tone to darken the result.

Inputs and outputs

• Input 0: in accepts mono or stereo PCM. It is required.
• Output 0: out emits the same shape as the input.

Controls

• Mode: tape, tube, fold, or bitcrush.
• Drive: input gain into the shaper, 0 to 48 dB.
• Edge: hardness of the shaping curve.
• Bias: DC offset into the shaper for asymmetric, even-harmonic character.
• Lowcut: crossover for the bass-preserving band split. Frequencies below it bypass the saturation.
• Tone: low-pass filter after the shaper to tame harshness.
• Oversample: anti-aliasing oversampling. off, 2x, 4x, or 8x. off is the raw, aliased sound.
• Bits and Downsample: bit depth and sample-rate reduction, used by bitcrush.
• Output: output trim, -24 to +24 dB.
• Mix: dry/wet blend for parallel saturation.

Notes

• Heavy Drive gets loud fast; pull Output down as you push Drive up.
• Oversample off is a deliberate choice: aliasing folds back into the spectrum, which can be the sound you want with bitcrush.
• fold responds strongly to Bias and Edge; small moves change the harmonic content a lot.
