Modify
Purpose
Section titled “Purpose”Modify edits a scale before it reaches a note generator or pitch processor. It can rotate the scale to another mode, transpose its root, add or remove pitch classes, and mark notes for downstream operators to avoid.
Place Modify from the Audio view of the Voro menu, under Compose. Connect a scale source to scale, then send out to the scale input of the operator you want to change. Keep another branch connected to the original scale to give different parts different note choices.
For example, C major with Rotate at 1 becomes D dorian. The notes stay the same and D becomes the root. Set Rootmode to set and Root to E to move that dorian shape to E.
Inputs and outputs
Section titled “Inputs and outputs”scale, optional. The scale to edit. With no input, Modify starts from a chromatic scale.out. The edited scale.
Controls
Section titled “Controls”- Rotate moves the root by scale degrees while keeping the same absolute pitch classes.
- Rootmode chooses whether to keep that root or transpose the scale to Root.
- The twelve pitch-class menus are relative to the final root.
keeppreserves the incoming choice, offremoves the note, onincludes it, andavoidincludes it with an avoid flag.
Modify applies Rotate first, Root second, and the pitch-class edits last. Turning every pitch class off produces a root-only scale. An avoid flag needs a downstream operator that reads it, such as Snap with Avoidamt enabled.
