Purpose

Snap changes the pitches in a note-voice stream. Gates, velocity and aftertouch pass through unchanged, so a phrase keeps its rhythm and dynamics. Strength lets you apply only part of the pitch correction.

Use

Place Snap from the Audio view of the Voro menu, under Compose. Connect note voices to voices, a scale source to scale, and out to an instrument that accepts note voices. Start with Mode at nearest and Strength at 1. Lower Strength to hear pitches between the original notes and their scale targets.

Inputs and outputs

• voices, required. A note-voice stream.
• scale, optional. The target scale. An unconnected input uses a chromatic scale.
• out. Note voices with corrected pitches.

Controls

• Mode selects nearest, up, down or degree. The degree mode finds the nearest scale degree and places it near the incoming pitch.
• Strength blends from the incoming pitch at 0 to the corrected pitch at 1.
• Transpose shifts notes by up to 48 semitones in either direction before snapping.
• Avoidamt enables correction away from degrees marked as avoid tones when raised above zero.
• Notelow and Notehigh define the range used by Passthrough. With Passthrough on, notes outside that range keep their transposed pitch without snapping. With it off, Snap processes all active notes.

Notes

Snap does not move note timing or add a lookahead delay. Strength at zero still applies Transpose. To hear avoid handling, feed it a scale with a note marked avoid in Modify.
