Quantize
Purpose
Section titled “Purpose”Quantize regrids a live note performance. It causally moves note onsets toward the next grid boundary while preserving each note’s duration. Because it runs live it cannot move a note earlier, only hold it briefly for the grid, so its latency is honest and bounded: between zero and one grid unit.
Insert it between a played note source and the instrument, and wire a timeline clock into timeline so the grid follows the tempo. Pick the Grid resolution and set Amount for full snap or partial tightening.
Inputs and outputs
Section titled “Inputs and outputs”- Input 0:
notesis the note lane to quantize. Required. - Input 1:
timelineis an optional timeline clock that sets the grid. - Output 0:
notesemits the quantized note lane.
Controls
Section titled “Controls”- Grid: quantize resolution,
1/4to1/64. - Amount: strength from 0 (untouched) to 1 (fully snapped).
- Freegridseconds: grid size in seconds when no timeline is wired.
- Latency depends on where you play: a note landing on the grid passes straight through, a note just after a boundary waits up to one grid unit for the next one.
- Amount below 1 tightens feel without killing it; full snap is for machine-tight parts.
- Note durations are preserved, so quantizing changes where notes start, not how long they last.
