Purpose

MIDI Out is the egress to hardware. It re-transmits a MIDI event stream, plays a note-voice surface out as NoteOn/NoteOff and aftertouch by following gate edges, and can act as the MIDI clock master, sending 24 PPQN beat clock with Start/Stop derived from a timeline. Drive hardware synths, grooveboxes, and the DAW from inside Voro.

Use

Set Device to the MIDI output port. Wire a MIDI event stream into midi to re-transmit it, or a note-voice surface (from Pattern, Step, MIDI Note, or any note source) into voices to have the voices played out as notes on the set Channel. To clock external gear, wire the timeline into transport and turn Clockout on.

Inputs and outputs

• Input 0: midi — a MIDI event stream to re-transmit. Optional.
• Input 1: voices — a note-voice surface converted to NoteOn/NoteOff and aftertouch from gate edges. Optional.
• Input 2: transport — a timeline used as the source for MIDI clock and Start/Stop. Optional.
• No outputs. The device is the destination.

Controls

• Enable — master on/off. Disabling sends all-notes-off first.
• Device — the MIDI output device name.
• Channel — MIDI channel for notes played from the voices input, 1 to 16.
• Clockout — send 24 PPQN MIDI beat clock derived from the transport input.
• Startstop — also send Start/Stop messages when the timeline transport starts and stops.

Notes

• A worker thread owns the device, so sending never blocks the audio path.
• All-notes-off is sent on disable and on teardown; external gear is not left with hanging notes.
• With Clockout on, Voro is the tempo master: the same timeline that drives the patch drives the hardware.
